My process often involves building, covering and excavating. The consecutive layers of addition and subtraction combine to create a whole where there is an ambiguity of space; shapes flicker between appearing as solid form and empty space.
I am interested in how all parts of life are interdependent. I see each part existing on a spectrum that extends from the density of a boulder to the ephemeral nature of a feeling. Paint offers me a range of opacity which stands in for these different states of being. A painting is complete when it is balanced enough to hold together, and dynamic enough to suggest the potential for the next configuration.
